Jacks no good
September 28, 2007
I finished 12th/77 at the Broadway last week. Nice venue, and an excellent structure which if anything was a little bit too slow. I had a funny distribution of hole cards over the 2 days, I think I had AK and AQ once each, didn’t have aces, kings or queens once, and picked up jacks I think about five times. The funny thing is, the time I had AK I played it just about as badly as possible, ended up putting 13,000 chips in preflop at 100/200 against a very tight player who obviously had aces or kings, anyway he had kings and an ace flopped, well played me.
My downfall came when I reraised Stuart Rutter allin with jacks, this time he had a hand, and his kings stood up. Down to the felt I then doubled up twice, the ever-reliable queen rag doing the job when I pushed from the small blind into the big blinds AJ. Back in the game with 35k at 1.5k/3k we were 6-handed when Thewy with the chiplead made it 9k utg and I looked at those pesky jacks again utg+1. Obviously I shoved, and Julian called with KQo, fair enough getting almost 2/1. It’s meant to be a race this, but predictably I was drawing dead when the turn gave Thewy the nut four flush, lol.
A few final tables have followed online this week. I have been concentrating on MTT play and finally got my act together, now I’m going to put some heads-up days back into the mix. Next live outing is going to be the Vic in London for the UKPT in a couple of weeks (not counting a possible mess around in a £50 rebuy in Manchester next week), if anyone can recommend a hotel near to the Vic please let me know as I’ve never stayed near there. After that I plan to play the Grosvenor Grand Prix in Walsall, though I have to qualify first, hopefully at a cheaper price than last year. That will bring me to November when the chilly weather may surprisingly drive me to pack my suitcase.
