Crazy Weekend
October 28, 2007
Well my short stack turned into a reasonable stack at the Grand Prix on Saturday, I had more than my fair share of luck admittedly, but ultimately it all ended in disappointment, when I busted in a disappointing 13th place (out of 216), £3k was hardly consolation as prior to the bust-out hand a big money finish was a very realistic possibility. The final three tables did not have many well-known players left in and I really fancied my chances. I may write some more about the tournie in the next few days…..
Got home the early hours of Sunday morning, pretty despondent. Slept til 3pm, then fired up six MTT’s on Sunday night, by 11pm I only had the Betfair $150k guaranteed tournament left, ($525+25 buy-in, 333 entrants). I was in the top three chips with around 50 players left. I then got crippled in one hand with JJ against AJs all-in pre, which left me with 12k chips with blinds at 4k/8k. Long story short, I went on to finish third for $19,400. I would rather have run good late on Saturday instead with a lot more money at stake, but still not a bad weekend’s work and it rounds off a very nice month.
Congrats to Joey Lovelady for winning the Betfair tournie, he has emerged as a class MTT player this year (winning the Stars Million not too long ago) and I have to say he calls all-ins with big pairs just as well as anyone ;-). Also apologies to Ben ‘MilkybarKid’ Grundy whose QQ lost out to my KJ preflop, at least I put your chips to good use if that’s any consolation :-).
Really feeling confident about the next few months, it looks like my next live tournaments are going to be Bristol and Blackpool. Hopefully some bigger results to follow…..
