The Good, the Bad and the Ugly…of hand histories
November 13, 2007
Okay, I’ve been on a little bit of life tilt recently, and my poker game may not be 100% as a result. I rarely post hand histories, but I did promise Mark I’d reveal what I had in an atrociously played hand at $2/$3 the other day..feel free to skip directly to the “Ugly” section if you would like to share my pain.
The Good:
In the SB with Ah, 7H - UTG raises to $20, 5 callers before me, of course I call.
Flop is 9H, Qh, 2c.
UTG bets $25 (weird ass bet into a pot of $100, but whatever), everyone folds except me
Turn is Ac
I bet out $75, he calls
Rivers a 2s
I check, he bets his last $60, I call
He rolls over pocket Kings…I laugh and scoop the pot
The Bad
I’m always of two minds when it comes to staking people I like. Unfortunately, this play was just so bad, there was no choice in the matter.
I’m UTG with As, Qs and raise $20 pre flop, getting 3 callers including Jess who is next to me in the BB. I like her, she’s a lovely girl and a reasonable if not great player. I also know she’s a) pregnant and b) not with an enormous bankroll.
Flop is 9s, 7s, 2s..oh..that’s pleasant.
Jess bets $17
I repop it to $45
Bonehead in midposition calls
Jess goes all in
I call..knowing about to stack her as she rolls over pocket 10s
The Ugly
Yep, life tilt definately caught up with me here. Sometimes I overestimate both my hands, and my table image. Young punk is in SB..5 limpers inlcuing me UTG with KQ sooted (don’t remember what suits, not important). Young punk raises to $20, I call knowing I will get value. Flop comes King, seven, rag rainbow. Punk checks, I bet $60, he repops to $105. Now, I should have seriously slowed down here an thought this through properly..but for a variety of reasons I was convinced he was bluffing. I reluctantly call.
Turns a Jack..he bets, i call
River’s a repeat seven, he goes all in for his last $116 - now I’m priced in no matter what he has, but I’m 100% convinced I was wrong and I’m behind.
Yep, he rolls over AK and I’m in the muck in disgust. Funny, he was uncomforatable about me being in the hand the whole way, but that’s not much of a sop to my ego when I know I played it so terribly badly.
Note to Mark - yes, your read was correct. I was just a bonehead.
