Thanksgiving At Susie’s

Hope you all had a great one! I certainly did. My sister in FL really wanted me to come and be with family and I really wanted to go, but when I looked at it realistically, I have been doing so much traveling lately and with more on the agenda after the new year, that to stay at home with my Las Vegas family is more like a vacation, at this point in my life. I have an open invitation with my “chosen” sister, Diane in Nashville; (we call ourselves, “Sisters by God” (SBG), and one of these days, my son is going to invite me. Many of you know my SBG in Las Vegas, my chosen family, the Sniffen Sisters, Herminia Mahealani Suzanne Sniffen and Rowena Sue Leola Sniffen. That’s why we call them Hermie and Ro. They grew up in restaurants so to speak as their partents owned restaurants and they worked as sue chefs.They both love to cook and entertain– fine by me! So they cooked all day on Wed. actually Hermie and I were more the sue chefs, I guess I’d be called the sue chef, Jr. and I did very little (again, not complaining!)

Now for the fun part: Our friend Tom McEvoy was going to be a tad late, we all knew this as he had another stop to make. Many had made other stops but they ate very little at their earlier stops as they know about the Sniffen fixins! So we all made a prop bet before Tom arrived. The bet was how long it would be after Tom ate dessert before he was dead asleep. The bets ranged from 8 minutes to 48 minutes — Hermie won with 8 minutes as it was actually only 6 minutes! I swear. Hermie was very analytical in her thinking. He would have had a busy day and be extra full and he always goes to sleep within 20 minutes of one of the sisters meals so she shaved off a little.
Another McEvoy funny: Tom is a very smart guy, overall. He just ain’t real smart when it comes to common sense things. For example, Tom had only been to my new house one time before Thanksgiving and that was during the day. He was trying to remember how to get here. I’ll give him credit for finding the right street. But he called me in a frenzy because he went to the wrong house. He was warmly greeted, he handed the hostess a bottle of wine, he went in and realized he didn’t know anybody! Wrong house! He had to use their telephone book to call me because he doesn’t know how to program his new cell phone, so he was in an “old lady tizzy state” when he finally arrived at his correct destination. After his first bite, he was calm, cool, collected … and sleepy!
Lastly, I’d like to say, thanks a stack of black to the Sniffen sisters. To watch then work, and they would not call it work, so I’ll say to watch them cook and then clean up the mess is like watching a choreographed dance. Thank you, I love you both!
