Outplaying the world’s best
December 3, 2007
40th/133 the next night, then yesterday played a $1500 super satellite for the $15,000 WPT event. I had slept in and bought in an hour after the start. Nothing exciting happened until I shoved with 55, got called by tens and hit a five on the river, well played me. Soon after this Allen Cunningham got moved two to my right. On the first orbit he was on the table it was folded to him on the button, blinds 200/400 ante 25. He had an 8k stack and raised to 1,100. Small blind folded, I’m in the big blind with just over 6k. I’m almost tempted to shove any two in this particular spot, and obviously can’t wait to get my chips in when I see the Grykotastic J3o. Cunningham tanks for a bit and then finds a dubious call in a satellite with A-10o. The first two cards come ace, ten, so it’s gg. That is until the rest of the board arrives Q98. It feels good to outplay one of the world’s best players ;-).
Felt very confident I was going to get a seat but it wasn’t to be. Took the blinds with AK three times but never had a good hand with a raise in front of me at the business end, and eventually busted around 38th/221 with 20 seats up for grabs.
The Green Machine trundled into town yesterday, and after hearing how he played his bust hand in the £3k UKPT main event I almost lost the will to live, particularly as I had bought a %. Karl if you read this what did you think of that ;-)?
Anyway I bought in to the evening tournie two hours late last night, found jacks to be no good against aces, then continued to get it in behind with A6o against AQ and hitting a four flush, then for something out of the ordinary I somehow got it in with the best hand, AQ v KQ, which was a silly idea to start with, and there was never much doubt the board would be king high.
Had a very late night (as in 9am this morning) with John (Chester), Lawrence Gosney and John Juanda’s best mate Andy O’Flaherty last night, and not sure if I’m going to play the evening tournie as I think that the kippers that are Joey, Ste and the ridiculously named Noseyboy arrive in town today.
