From Broke To Balla In 380 Days!

I mentioned in my last post I was due to play in a $5k freeroll on Betfair last night, which I did and ended up busting 68/133 despite doubling up on my very first hand. Mrs P and I had to drop Step Pud off with his gran so I ended up missing the first few hands but was delighted to see KK when I logged on. UTG made it 6xBB, MP2 min raised so I pushed all-in and only UTG called. He shows AKo and misses his Ace and I’m rocking and rolling. I made a bit of a mistake chasing a straight and flush draw which put me down to 1.1k with blinds of 50/100 and I was sat 49/72 remaining at the break. I busted when i open pushed on the button with AKs and AJo called. I had to check it was Betfair and not PokerStars when I bricked out but a Jack fell on the river and condemned me to a 68th place finish.
I fired up a 4/180 on Stars and got off to a great start and with blinds at 25/50 I was sat with 5.3k and looking good. I decided to play very LAG, raising all pocket pairs, big aces, most cards first in when in late position and the fish hated me! I also decided not to bet my standard 3xBB, more like 2.8718xBB and they thought I was crazy. There were preflop raises of 283 and c-bets of 497 which the fish couldn’t seem to grasp were actually almost 300 and 500 respectively! My aggression became my downfall though when I got giddy with AJo on a Ace high board only to be called down by AQs and then I shoved AQ into the path of AK and I went out in 57th. Was great fun raking in pots I had no right being in!
For some reason I checked the balance of my Neteller to find I had about $70 in there! WTF?! It turns out that when I withdrew from Ultimate Bet, I never requested it from Neteller so it’s been sat there all this time! Pud you wanker! So I now have my own roll, albeit a tiny one, but it’s definitely workable for sure. I was going to stick it on Ladbrokes and play there “Equal payout” games where the top 5 all get double the buy-in back but I played two, cashed in one, and despite the shocking standard of play I’m not going to bother. If you lose a couple of those it’d be a nightmare to get back in front plus the blind structure is fucking awful, doubling every 10 minutes so even though it’s not a turbo it soon becomes an all-in fest so this isn’t for me at all. So a new plan has been hatched and it involves proper bankroll management and it’s going to be one hell of a grind that’s for sure!
I’m going to deposit exactly $60 (amount left after paying back my backer’s stake) into Mrs P’s new, shiny PokerStars account (which will remain anon for the time being) which I have been assured is set to Doomswitch level 3 of 10 and has it’s suckout-o-meter currently set to off and play the 45 man SnG’s with a $1.20 buy-in. The 45 man games pay out the top 7 spots in a rather top heavy manner with $14 for taking the bitch down, $10 for second, $7 for third, $5 for forth and then $1 less for each place down to 7th. With them only taking around 90 minutes to complete I should be able to rack up a few of these easier than the $4.40 180 man games I’ve played recently. Mrs P isn’t really bothered with me playing but it’s hardly fair on her to sit watching me play poker for 3-4 hours in an MTT when she’s been running around with Step Pud all day plus I like to spend time with her and if I go deep in a couple this can easily be 4-5 hours taken up. At least with these 45 man games they fill up every 10 mins or so, so I could fire off 3-5 of them in the time I could do one of the 4/180’s.
I think a 100% ROI is more than achievable in these games so I envisage that it’ll take me around 135 games to make the $160 profit needed to have 50xBI for the $4.40 180 games, meaning if I play an average of 3 per night it’ll take me 45 nights to reach my first milestone. I think once I hit the magic $200 mark I’ll re-evaluate and either play the 4/180’s on Stars until I have cleared the $50 bonus or jump over to Mrs P’s new Full Tilt account and start playing the $2.25 180 man games over there with a sign up bonus and 27% rakeback. Incidentally, the 2/180 games on Full Tilt count towards the Pocket Fives player rankings which I would love to get a mention on one day, even if I only appear on the sortable rankings for the UK top 100, a goal of mine for 2008 but that’s for another post. I really want to practice good bankroll management and have at least 50xBI before playing a particular level of MTT’s although I will take the occasional shot if a MTT has a good overlay or if I am running like God however I will be staying well clear of rebuy’s at any stake as they do my box in! With a bit of luck and with some solid play I should be able to take this $60 up to a nice couple of grand by my birthday in April. Also, in the next couple of months our circumstances should have changed so I might be able to dump a little bit of change online again so that I can play the $5-$10 MTT’s on a proper roll, again more on that in another post. BTW, 380 days is from now to January 1st 2009 just so you know!
Things are still great on the home front and I think me and Mrs P have finally gone around the twist! For someone who is 26 (me) I am certainly a big kid. I like to pull faces, make stupid noises and voices and generally act like a twat. It seems too that Mrs P is doing this and coming out with some cracking one liners and quick responses to stuff which literally make me LOL! I guess she’s thought if I can’t beat him join him! Icing on the cake was last night. I was turning the TV and stuff off and locking up and Mrs P hit the hay. She was 3/4 asleep when I climbed into bed and all of a sudden she starts laughing for no apparent reason. She told me she was dreaming she was shopping in Asda where she started mooing at people like a cow (I do a mean cow and sheep impression BTW) and she found it funny. Crazy bitch! She’s been mooing this morning and mooed at me via text too and I’m sure it won’t be long before I get her to moo in a public place! It could be the new craze, like “Bogeys” was on Dick and Dom last year!
Doubt I’ll play any tonight, if I do it’ll be just the one game when Step Pud goes to bed and whilst the shitty soaps are on otherwise I’ll hit a few games tomorrow and hopefully I’ll get off to a good start because if not I can see myself getting very frustrated at these stakes where the donkeys heavily out number the decent players!
