Christmas Eve and all through the house…

December 23, 2007

I realize that it’s been a month without content for this here little blog - suffice to say that it’s been an “interesting” one. My trip back to Canada was exhausting and a little soul destroying. Between Tom dying and the recognition that despite it being home to almost all of the people I love, it’s not my home anymore, that trip sapped a lot out of me.

Fortunately, I came home to Australia to be greeted with an exciting new job offer. After 2 years of forced career exile, I’m finally jumping back into a major organisation with the expectation to build a dynamic event marketing program for them. I start the new job on January 8th and despite signing and sending the paperwork back last week, I still do little mental back flips at the prospect.

I’m not the only one with new employment - Graham also has taken a huge new job with a great company which he starts on January 14th. There have been some hard core celebrations around our house recently - with the obligatory fine dining celebration at Rockpool booked for January 3rd. Waygu beef, here we come.

So, my new job commences just as the Aussie Millions begins. There was no chance I would play the Main Event as my NLHE tournament game defines the word suckage - however the side games are becoming more and more interesting to me. So, I’ve thrown my hat into the ring on January 7th with the Stud/Stud H/L/Razz tourney. I’m hoping it’s early enough that most of the pros won’t have arrived yet, but juicy enough that a bunch of fish come along for the swim. Fish other than me that is.

Congrats go out to jeciimd for taking down the BBToo and winning a seat down under here to play in the Millions. I’m buying the first round in the Vegas Bar upon his arrival and will be a one woman blogger cheering section.

Lastly, it’s Christmas. I’m still wrapping my head around the notion of 21 Degrees Celcius for Christmas Day. Three years into antipodean holidays and I doubt I’ll ever adapt to the idea of shorts in December. I’m cooking us up a huge rib roast today for our Christmas Eve dinner, then we’re off to the traditionally Aussie BBQ with friends tomorrow. Boxing Day rounds us off with tickets to the Boxing Day Test. Yes, Cricket - a game which lasts five days and takes time outs for tea.

Finally we’re off to Tasmania on the 27th for five idylic days of hiking (assuming the ankle holds up), canoeing, fine dining, vineyard tours and getting married on New Years Eve.

Have a great holiday all..
