The Win Still Eludes Me

Well I decided to join in the Raise The River $4.40 180 man challange as I said I would in my last post and for once I seem to have got off to a pretty decent start. I’ve now played half of my ten games and I’ve had two cashes, one final table and I’m currently sat second in our league and in very good shape to take either the full $182 first prize or $78 for being runner-up. Currently it’s Lou Saban who is at the top of the board with a massive 36 points from 9 games played followed by myself on 29, BurnleyMik also on 29 but with 6 games played, Matty H sat with 26 from 6 played and Lou’s hubby Mike Saban with 25 points from 8 games making up the top five. It’s far from over, and I need a couple of deep finishes to really put the pressure on the guys and gals who’ve played more than me so far.
My first game didn’t go too well and I ended up busting 76th for 2 points. I looked through the hand history and there were two big pots, including the one I busted on, that I should have gotten away from but didn’t and they were my undoing. The second game was much more fruitful and I hit the first break sat 10/67 remaining fish and within five minutes of the restart I was dealt Rockets twice in 6 hands and was paid off with them both to be sat 4/63 and with a real chance of taking the bitch down. For some reason though I seemed to take my foot off the gas and with the blinds getting pretty high I found myself short stacked and sat 18/19 at the bubble and with a table full of huge stacks I was going to be called with anything I would push with. The bubble burst, taking two fish with it and I eventually crashed out in 16th for a nice 6 point score and obviously $8.64 in cash.
I was a tad disappointed with the way I went from the aggressor to being passive and basically costing myself a place at the final table and vowed not to turn off the aggression in my next game and it really paid off. Despite being relatively card dead early on I managed to accumulate a half decent stack and at the first break I was sat on an 8.9k stack and 4/69 and playing pretty well, if I may say so myself! With 45 to go I was chip leader and we hit the final table in 2nd place and looking really good. Within 8 minutes I’d taken out 3 of the final table and was sat in a very healthy position and at the break I was sat 1/4 with a 150k stack against 59k, 42k and 19k. We finally got to heads up and I had a 3/1 lead but two hands undid me. The first hand I bluffed when villain raised his button to 6k with blinds 1000/2000/200a and I called with 6s5s. Flop comes 9s7dKd and we both check. Turn brings the 4c and I now have an OESD so bet out 8k and he quickly calls. River brings 9h and I check. Villain bets 20k and I check-raise to 90k knowing that he folds here unless he has a 9 in his hand, he then re-shoves and I fold. Next hand I complete with 64o and we see a flop of 3s7s8c and I call a 6k bet. Turn brings Th and we both check and I know now I should be betting here but meh. River is a nasty card, the 5s which completes my straight but also the flush. Villain puts me all in and I call. He shows Ks2s for the flush and I go home $144 better off and more importantly 16 points for the league! It’s my second 2nd place finish in these things and I’m still to win any MTT with more than 90 runners! It’ll come I’m sure!
I played another two last night busting in 54th for 2 points and 38th for 3 points but I didn’t play overly well in either mainly due to getting fucked about by Pud Jr’s mum over Christmas visiting arrangements which really wound me up something chronic and I ended up going to buy a few tins of cider which didn’t help things! I really need to get back on track drinking wise because I’ve drank quite a lot since Friday and I know it’s Christmas and stuff but we’ve not been drinking during the week and felt better for it so I need to get back into that routine. We had a relaxing end to the night after Step Pud fell asleep on my belly and I just laid there with Mrs P with her head on my chest, it was nice and I guess what it’s all about when you take away all the bullshit we have in the world. Oh and no blog entry is complete without a mention of sexy time either, thankfully the “Red Flag” Gods (amen) have had pity on us and disappeared for Christmas, what great timing so Xmas roompage is on the menu, well you have to work off those excess mince pies somehow!
That’ll do for now. Step Pud is off to his wanker Grandma’s tonight so we have the flat to ourselves. I’ve one of Pud Jr’s presents to wrap and then I’m done, can finally relax and put my feet up! I need to cut my hair so I look pretty for Santa then I might hit a couple of 4/180’s depending how me and Mrs P feel and just chill out.
