What a year…. 2007 was the year of Poker!

December 31, 2007

Well thats almost another year gone by!

2007 has been a very good year! I think the amount of UK Bloggers increased massively and a friendship and network was formed. The community really did grow fast and apart from a few idiots along the way, this has grown into an excellent poker community. 2007 saw a lot of Ups and Downs for my poker, I had a a few really bad runs and one in particualr where I almost chucked it in and to be fair without the support of the guys at the forum and some other bloggers I may have actually knocked it on the head the way I was feeling at that time.

Here are a few of my highlights of 2007.

Changed from being predominantly a cash player to a tourney player early in the year.

Qualified in the Betfair Grandprix for the live final where I managed a 3rd place finish behind eventual packae winner Mike Saban.

Won a package to play in the Scottish Poker Championships, at the Maybury Casino in Edinburgh. That was an eye opener, I think I learnt more about live poker in that one game than I have all the times I have played live at Blackpool, but was a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

The Bloggerment was started. We had all seen the Americans playing weekly games amongst themselves, but the time difference made it very difficult for the European guys to play, so myself and Acorn, got our heads together and with the support of the other bloggers the bloggerment was launched! I think it is on about week 41 now and is Every Sunday at 9pm on Pokerstars!

2007 saw the rise and fall of the once mighty BlueScouse. Scouse was a really good guy who had managed to run his bankroll from a tiny amount upto , I think, it was about $300k and then managed to blow it all in a horrible to watch way. Despite many peoples sound advice Scouse didn’t do bankroll management and it was a real shame. I guess its the old saying… “Live by the sword, die by the sword”.

We also watched Amatay bloom from a very good player to a stage where is is now going to go pro in 2008 and i wish him all the best there.

Cloud has had more blogs this year than Yorkiepud has had warnings for internet usages at work!

Kenn came on the scene and ever since we have seen his amazing rise through the world of the online MTT player. I can really see 2008 being a VERY good year for him.

A couple of bloggers made it to the 2007 WSOP. I think both Voice of Joe and Teaulc both managed to make it, would be good to see more of us getting there in 2008, but it is a huge ask!

I joined PXF, probably the smartest thing I have done. really improved my game, although i need to use it more again right now as I haven’t been on for a while!!

Finally, i think the highlight of 2007 for me was teaming up with my good friends, Cloud and Brainchylde and forming www.raisetheriver.com. The site has gone from strength to strength thanks to the support of you guys. I know the community is small, but apart from a few minor rifts, which are inevitable, the guys and gals on there as a whole are absolutely awesome. Very rarely do you read a thread where someone is getting flamed. No matter how trivial or complicated the question you ask, someone willl always respond respectfully and to the best of their ability and thats the beauty of what we have their IMO. I think 2008 has a lot in store for RTR and its members, so just watch that space!

 Well I guess thats it.

Thankyou for reading and I wish you a Happy New Year and lets hope its an extremely prosperous 2008 for us all!!!!!!!!
