bot.gifIn the wake of the Absolute Poker cheating scandal, a new article published in this today’s Sydney Morning Herlad deals another black eye to online poker.

The article claims that online poker is being overwridden by bots that “can outplay even the most skilful humans.”  Asher Moses, who wrote the article, went on to quote a recent U.S. newspaper:

In an opinion column for The New York Times, Ian Ayres, an economist and lawyer at Yale, said that, in the very near future, “online poker may become a suckers’ game that humans won’t have a chance to win”.

Last month, AbsolutePoker.com was accused of having insiders that are able to see players’ hole cards and have prior knowledge to what cards are coming.  Since then the company has issued over a million dollars in refunds to players who claim that they have been cheated.

  1. The poker networks will stay ahead of the bots, they have detection software that sniffs ‘em out and will continue to build better bot protection as time goes on.

I’m much more concerned that sites like Absolute and networks like FutureBet continue to thrive amid the scams and scandals perpetrated by their respective management. Why aren’t the players screaming foul? What does it take to piss people off?

  2. [...] Interesting article out of Australia about the development of bots at the online poker tables. (via Live Action Poker.) [...]

  3. Bots and superusers are two totally separated topics.

Both can be dangerous and very smart bots can bypass the security systems, maybe not at the majors but definitively at smaller rooms.

The error made by the superusers is that they were too greedy and hence noticed, but imagine a combination of a bot and a superuser without the greed. It could cheat-grind forever…
